FAQ's

Where are you based?

We are based in Rainham, Kent, but deliver our lessons throughout Kent and Medway We are currently building our available venues.

The majority of our lessons are held at Leybourne Lakes. Leybourne Lakes is a great venue boasting waters up to 30 degrees in the summer. It has  a great community of paddlers and swimmers and offers a lake side café.

We have a launch spot for the River Medway directly opposite the Arch Bishops Palace. We are working closely with Lock Meadow as one of our venues offering some great eateries and bars close to the launch spot.

We also deliver coastal lessons at Reculver with its steep history and vast wildlife. It is one of our customer favourites.

We work closely with Kent Surf School to deliver advance lessons and SUP surfing at Viking Bay also.

You can select your chosen location at the booking stage. Each location offers unique experiences and opportunities to our clients.

Do I need to be at a certain fitness level to train with Daddyboards?

There are inherent risks with any water sport so we ask that all participants are able to swim up to 25m for our group lessons. We will ensure that all lessons are fully inclusive regardless of your ability, fitness or other limitations. We are dedicated to creating a fully inclusive environment and are working on a range of lessons for people with disabilities, as well as therapeutic family sessions. If you have any doubts or worries get in touch.

Will the lessons run in adverse weather?

A decision on the suitability of running lessons will be made as early as possible and the safety of participants will be paramount in this decision making. We will be in touch with participants if adverse weather that may impact the lesson is forecast. However, we love paddle boarding come rain or shine!

Which boards do you use?

We are currently working in partnership with McConks to provide our equipment. We chose McConks due to the quality of their boards and value for money.

Do I need to be able to swim?

It is not a requirement as we will provide participants with all the relevant safety equipment to ensure they can enjoy the activity as safely as possible regardless of swimming proficiency. If you are unable to swim you will need to have a private lesson to begin with until we can assess your personal safety to be able to join a group lesson.  We have proven strategies to support those who are unable to swim or who have a phobia of the water. We will also run through all safety information and advice prior to any lessons with us.

What is the minimum age to join a Daddyboards lesson?

The ages we can accommodate vary by venue see below. Our group lessons have minimum age of 12 to ensure our younger paddlers get the attention they deserve to enjoy the sport to its maximum. We offer deals for 1-2 and family private lessons.

Leybourne lakes - 5 years on a shared board with a family member, 8 years on their own. We recommend children under 10 are booked on either a family lesson or a private lesson rather than a group lesson to begin with.

River Medway - 8 years on a shared board with a family member, 10 years old on their own.

Reculver and open water - 10 years old

What happens if I am unable to attend a lesson?

Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend any session. There is a non-refundable deposit of £10 per person per lesson if less then 48hours notice. However if you reschedule a lesson with us we will transfer this deposit to the new booking. If you fail to attend a lesson refunds will be at company discretion.
